Description:
In Tokyo, Osen works as a servant for Kumazawa, a dishonest antiques dealer who takes in the poor Sokichi Hata. Kumazawa mistreats both Osen and Sokichi while cheating Buddhist monks out of their temple treasures. When Kumazawa is arrested, Osen agrees to help Sokichi get the money he needs to attend medical school. They share a small room, and Osen eventually resorts to prostitution during the day to earn enough for them, keeping it a secret from Sokichi.
