Description:
Author Jean Williams is living with the Eskimo people in Alaska, researching her new novel. She forms close bonds with several animals: a pair of bear cubs orphaned by hunter Gaston Rogers, a talking raven, and Firefly, a collie grieving for her deceased game warden master. The community faces a crisis as a pack of wolves and wild dogs, led by Swift Lightning, decimates the reindeer herd, threatening their food supply and forcing them to migrate. Hunter Gaston offers to take Jean to Nenana, Alaska, transporting his furs by dog sled. Disliking Gaston's brutal nature, Jean is accompanied on the journey by her devoted animal companions.
