Description:
This historical drama movingly depicts the social unrest in late 19th century Russia that led to the 1917 Revolution. The film closely follows Maxim Gorky's 1907 novel, "The Mother." Inna Tchourikova, "the mother," witnesses her kind husband become violent and consumed by rage due to the harsh conditions of a steel mill in Sormovo. When he begins abusing her, she is defended by her son Pavel. After his father's death, Pavel is forced to work in the same factory. There, he and his friends become interested in Marxism and begin organizing their fellow workers.
