Description:
*Heidi* is a 1974 Japanese anime series by Zuiyo Eizo, later known as Nippon Animation, adapted from Johanna Spyri's 1880 novel *Heidi's Years of Wandering and Learning*. Directed by Isao Takahata, a feature film version, *Heidi in the Mountains*, also called *The Story of Heidi*, was created by Zuiyo from the series and released in 1979. The film features a new cast, with only Heidi and her grandfather returning. It's the only English-language commercial release of the *Heidi* anime in the United States, appearing on home video in the 1980s. Isao Takahata has stated that neither he nor Hayao Miyazaki were involved in creating any shortened versions of the story.
