Description:
Real estate speculator Albert Hahn is found dead in his cellar, having died from fermentation gas poisoning. The attending physician declares it an accident, but Inspector Polt senses foul play. Hahn was widely disliked, and Polt believes the death was staged to appear accidental. With numerous winegrowers harboring motives, Polt investigates the interconnected network of cellars. He discovers a system of holes linking them all. Determined to prove murder, Polt gathers a group of the winegrowers for drinks, prompting a collective confession. They all participated in poisoning Hahn with fermentation gas, but one man volunteers to take full responsibility, citing family obligations. He then commits suicide, leaving behind a confession.
