Description:
Georges Méliès made his first Cinderella film in 1899. It was remarkable for its length and basic story, and his use of dissolves to connect scenes inspired filmmakers for years afterward. Méliès was the leading figure in cinema at the time. By 1912, however, his style had grown old-fashioned. This film shows he was starting to borrow techniques from other directors, like using direct cuts instead of dissolves, and even includes a shot-reverse-shot sequence during the slipper scene.
