Description:
A story of political maneuvering and intense emotion unfolds. The queen has lived in isolation for a decade, hiding her face since her husband's murder, wishing to die beside him. Stanislas, a poet known as Azrael, is a deeply troubled anarchist consumed by suicidal thoughts and resentment toward the queen, whom he idealizes. He intends to kill her and then himself when he enters her private chambers, but an unexpected connection forms between them. Part of the attraction is his resemblance to the late king. Stanislas believes the queen can reclaim power by re-entering public life, while she tries to inspire him to find hope and leave their isolated existence. Meanwhile, the queen’s adversaries scheme to exploit their relationship, but also to undermine their efforts.
