Description:
As boys, Squire Marshall and Blacksmith Walling both love the same woman, Alice Boardman, but she marries Walling, angering the Squire. Years later, the Squire’s son Anson challenges Walling's son Johnnie to climb a tree, resulting in a fall that leaves Johnnie crippled. Later, Anson and Alice fall in love, upsetting Walling, who scolds his daughter. Walling’s other son, Bill, returns home from college and is injured in a train accident. Anson steals $480 from a church fund that Alice is guarding. Alice is then struck by lightning. Walling takes Anson and the Squire to church, where they both confess and seek forgiveness.
