Description:
In Craiova, Romania, five hundred elderly residents spend their days in a home, funding their stay with meager pensions. Life is monotonous, routines predictable, and even complaints are commonplace. One resident clings to the hope of winning the lottery for a better life. Filmmakers Andreea Paduraru and Cristi Puiu spend six days attempting to connect with these individuals burdened by their pasts. When asked about their happiest memories, few can or will answer, instead focusing on daily concerns within the home. Eventually, one woman recounts her work as a government research head during the Ceausescu regime, recalling a past argument. Another resident reflects on his experiences as a World War II soldier, returning to the present.
