Description:
In the 1960s, the poor fishing village of Matala in southern Crete became internationally known, sparking controversy and drawing the attention of both the church and the military regime in Athens. Hippies from around the world settled in Matala's famous caves, creating a unique community with unconventional lifestyles that challenged societal norms. This film explores the stories of those young people: Arn and Elmar from Germany, British sisters Shirley and Pam, Greek musician Dimitris Poulikakos, grandmothers Alexandra and Katerina, and George, a fisherman and friend of Joni Mitchell. Through their recollections, the film reveals what drew them to Matala and how they interacted with the local community, addressing the rumors and realities of life in this legendary place.
