Description:
Following World War Two, France struggled with economic hardship and widespread poverty, leaving many homeless and vulnerable. The harsh winter of 1953-54 intensified their plight. Father Pierre (Lambert Wilson), a parish priest deeply affected by the suffering and deaths caused by the cold, wrote to the French government requesting assistance. His letter, published in newspapers, sparked an outpouring of public support. This led him to establish "Les Chiffoniers d'Emmaus," or "The Ragpickers of Emmaus," a charitable organization that continues to this day, channeling aid to the homeless. This film recounts the true story of Abbe Pierre's impactful work during those years.
