Description:
In August 1991, the Albanian ship "Vlora," carrying 20,000 people, arrived at the port of Bari after a journey from Cuba. Difficult docking conditions led some passengers to swim to shore, while others celebrated their arrival with cheers and victory signs. The ship had departed Durrës with a cargo of sugar, but a large crowd of people overwhelmed it, prompting the captain to steer towards Italy. The following day, Italy awoke to a stunned city and an empty stadium where the Albanians had been held before their departure. Twenty-one years later, while most passengers were returned to Albania, crossings continued, with many attempting the journey again. Today, 4.5 million foreigners reside in Italy.
