Description:
This film explores the quiet disappointments of everyday life, finding no grandeur in dreams unrealized. The people who frequent the Strudsen bar are, like ostriches, retreating from the challenges around them, keeping their aspirations hidden. Writer Benny Andersen, with a poet’s eye, offers a compassionate look at individuals who never pursue their dreams, perhaps lacking the necessary dissatisfaction to change course. The bar manager yearns for his own establishment but won't admit it; the butcher secretly desires an opera career; the window polisher harbors a hidden affection for the barmaid; and the pianist willingly absorbs their unspoken hopes. This film represents Henning Carlsen’s finest work since his debut with 'Sult'.
