Description:

This adaptation of Victor Hugo's classic story is set in Italy and moves back in time. Instead of Queen Anne, the deformed protagonist encounters Lucrezia Borgia. The character of Gwynplaine is renamed Angelo, played by Jean Sorel, and his disfigurement is depicted as a simple slash across his mouth. The story, not attributed to Hugo, is a swashbuckling adventure about the disfigured acrobat battling the Borgias' soldiers.
