Description:

Feuerreiter is an elegant period drama set in Frankfurt in 1796. Romantic and rebellious poet Friedrich Hölderlin finds a position as a private tutor in the home of banker Gontard through his friend, Baron von Sinclair. He is soon caught between his passion for poetry and his love for Susette, the lady of the house. Adding to the complexity, Baron von Sinclair is in love with him. Hölderlin writes his most beautiful poems during this difficult period. However, he becomes a recluse after losing Susette. The film explores how conflicting emotional and sensual desires can inspire art. Feuerreiter was featured in the New German Films program at the 49th International Berlin Film Festival in 1999.
