Talaaq (1958)

Indu, a schoolteacher, lives a comfortable life with her widowed father, Moolchand Chabbe. Moolchand is determined to keep the ground floor of their building vacant to protect the city's water supply. Ravi Shankar Chaube, a poet and engineer, rents the ground floor and quickly wins Indu's heart. With Moolchand’s condition that he marry into the family, they wed. Indu leaves her job, and soon they have a son named Ashoo. Four years later, tensions arise when Moolchand gambles away a significant amount of Ravi’s earnings.
