Description:
After a decade, Madness releases a new album, 'The Liberty of Norton Folgate,' a connected song cycle about London. While the songs explore different parts of the city, they musically focus on the waves of immigration – Irish, Jewish, Caribbean, Asian, and others – and their musical impact on London. The concert at Hackney Empire connects to the venue's Music Hall history, placing Madness within a uniquely English popular musical tradition rooted in the Victorian era. Suggs and Carl guide the audience through London's past, referencing the eras of Karl Marx and Jack the Ripper.
