Description:
In 1994, Jean-Marie Straub and Danièle Huillet made a film titled Lothringren! adapting Maurice Barrès’s novel Colette Baudoche – Story of a Young Girl of Metz. In 2010, Jean-Marie Straub returned to Alsace to film the second part of a two-part adaptation of Barrès's work. The film is based on Barrès’s 1903 book, In the Service of Germany, which concerns the mountain of Saint-Odile. With Joseph Rottner as the main character, Straub follows a young doctor as he explores Mont Saint-Odile, retracing the routes Barrès took to Ratsamhausen and around the ancient "Pagan Wall" ruins. Straub, who was born in Metz, appears as a local who converses with the young Alsatian doctor.
