Description:
Jorge Dermitzakis, son of Greek immigrants in Argentina, spent years teaching and performing Greek dances before presenting his work, Tango-Hasapiko, Dance of the Ports, in Buenos Aires in 2010. The performance uses dance to explore the dual identity of the choreographer, a Greek-Argentinean. The port symbolizes both immigration and displacement, as well as the meeting point of Argentine tango and Greek hasapiko. The documentary recounts the story and nostalgia of Greek immigrants in Buenos Aires, and details the collaborative effort behind creating and staging Tango Hasapiko.
