Description:
Nicky Nelson is a quick-witted barker running a wax museum and sideshow on the Atlantic City boardwalk. Despite his friend Gene Krupa's band playing nearby to draw crowds, their acts, including "The Living Corpse," aren't enough to keep customers, and the landlord shuts them down for unpaid rent. Nicky seeks help from Stephen Hanratty, who runs the pier's Dance Pavilion, to promote Krupa's band, but Hanratty refuses to even hear them out. There, he meets singer Lily Racquel, who sees through his facade but might be able to persuade a radio station manager to give her an audition. She asks him for money to help with the project; he quickly loses it gambling.
