Trickster Theory (2002)

This video installation, part of the No Ghost Just a Shell series, explores philosophical ideas through interactions with the virtual character Annlee. Using Belhaj-Kacem’s Trickster Theory, the work presents Annlee as both a created entity and an independent agent – both controlled and rebellious. The video examines questions of identity, who creates, and the nature of virtual worlds, showing how a character within commercial and artistic constraints might find strategic freedom. Employing sound, text, and simple visuals, it uses Annlee’s virtual existence as a platform for questioning, uncertainty, and philosophical exploration.
