The Velvet Underground in Boston (1967)

This recently discovered film, shot by Warhol at a Boston Tea Party concert, showcases experimental filmmaking. Rapid zooms, sweeping camera movements, and in-camera editing to form still images and flashes of light reflect the energetic atmosphere of the Exploding Plastic Inevitable – with its strobe lights, dancers, colorful slides, multiple projections, amphetamines, and loud music. It's a valuable discovery for Velvet Underground fans, being one of only two known films with synchronized live band sound, and the sole one in color.
