Description:
In Turkey during the era of the Wealth Tax, many non-Muslims faced unfair and excessive taxation. Nimet and Durmuş leave their home in Niğde and seek refuge with Durmuş’s friend Bekir in Istanbul. Bekir secures Durmuş a job at an inn, but he dreams of more than porter work – he desires the wealth of the inn's owner, Halit Bey. Halit Bey begins selling his possessions to meet the tax demands for his wife Nora, who is receiving care in a nursing home. The Wealth Tax is reshaping the lives of everyone.
