Eileen Gray – Invitation to a Voyage (2006)

Eileen Gray, born in 1878 to an aristocratic Irish-Scottish family, was a groundbreaking designer and architect who shaped the Modern era. After studying in London, she moved to Paris in 1902 and became known for her innovative designs like the Adjustable Table, Lota Sofa, and Tube Light. Gray lived a free-spirited life, enjoying both men and women, fast cars, and travel, all while transforming how people lived. Her architectural home, E.1027 in Roquebrune, impressed architect Le Corbusier but also complicated their friendship. Though largely overlooked after her death in 1976, Gray’s work is now highly sought after, with her original pieces selling for millions and admired by artists like Yves St. Laurent. Her designs remain strikingly modern, establishing her as a key figure in Modernism and one of the most fascinating women of the 20th century.
