Cynthia: Kaijoken Tanjou Monogatari (2003)

This film is based on the true story of Yoshitomo Kimura, who became paralyzed from the chest down after a spinal cord injury in 1987. His wife, a clinical lab technician, works hard to keep his spirits up. Inspired by a motivational workshop, Kimura decides to fight for his recovery. He gains enough movement to work from home, but struggles with loneliness, especially when he falls. Hoping for companionship and assistance, they adopt a lively Labrador puppy named Cynthia, envisioning her as a potential service dog.
