Farewell to Mekhov (2000)

Farewell to Mekhov is a 2000 documentary film set in the Pskov and Vitebsk regions. It explores the disappearing tradition of Russian village music, documenting the voices, songs, and spirit of rural communities where cultural practices are fading. Using field recordings, folk song performances, and interviews, the film presents a moving tribute to a way of life centered on music, memory, and shared identity. The film was supported by folklorists Irina Romodina and Alexander Romodin. Cinematography by Alexander Sokolkov (Moscow). Produced for ZDF (Berlin) with Jochen Krausser and Ulrike Hunt (Bonn).
