For centuries, Homer's depiction of ancient Greece was dismissed as myth. But in the 19th century, Heinrich Schliemann's archaeological discoveries at Mycenae and Troy suggested these places might have actually existed. In the early 20th century, Victor Bérard, a scholar of Homer's *Odyssey*, embarked on a Mediterranean journey with photographer Boissonnas. His goal was to prove the mythical lands of the poem – the cyclopes, Aeolus, Circe, Charybdis, and Scylla – had real geographical counterparts. Bérard theorized that the *Odyssey* was a practical guide for people migrating eastward during Homer's time. A call to adventure? Jean Baronnet follows both Ulysses and Victor Bérard in this film.
