Description:
Zara, a bar entertainer struggling with alcoholism, lives with novelist Carl Salter and attracts many admirers. Her life is upended when Tony arrives at Salter's estate, insisting Zara is actually Maria, the wife of his friend Bruno, whose memory was lost in World War I. Zara has no recollection of her past but leaves with Tony, much to Salter's displeasure. Bruno, now an Italian Army officer, attempts to restore Maria's memory on his estate. As to whether Zara is truly Maria remains uncertain, and the situation intensifies when Salter appears with a patient from Trieste he claims is the real Maria, prompting everyone on Bruno’s estate to desperately seek the truth.
