Description:

The film recounts an unusual story, presented as a flashback, about Hughes, an engineer for the British Telegraph Company, who arrives in a remote village in Guria. He falls in love with Anna, but becomes an enemy to her brother, Nestor, a Bolshevik. Both Hughes and Nestor are shot and killed by Lavrenty Mgeladze, a man who was once wealthy but later lost everything and was exiled from the village. An elderly Anna recounts this story to a young composer who is recording the music: "My dear homeland, why are you weeping?"
