Early Autumn (2011)

As summer ends, Matsubara Tatsuhira (Yakusho Koji), a wine shop owner in Nagano, experiences conflicting feelings as his daughter gets married. He's devoted the last 20 years, since his wife's death, to raising her, even putting aside his own desires for love. But his daughter's wedding leaves him feeling emotionally empty and alone. He takes a break from work and travels to Kyoto to see his old friend, writer Shigeo Suzuki (Iwasaki Ryō), and reconnect with high school friend Yamabe Kōsuke (Ten Ten). At Yamabe's request, Matsubara visits a nightclub to learn about Reiko (Nakagawa Noriko), Yamabe's daughter and Matsubara's daughter's friend. Reiko has secretly loved Matsubara since they were children, and his dormant feelings begin to resurface.
