Shi Qi (2008)

At two years old, Seventeen's father abandoned him at a hotel and died that night. He was then raised in luxury by a wealthy couple from Beijing until, years later, police arranged a reunion with his birth mother. Forced to leave his established life, Seventeen struggles to adjust to poverty in the countryside and a controlling mother haunted by past loss. Though her love for him is profound, her fear of losing him again becomes overwhelming, even hindering his ability to take his crucial high school exam. Meanwhile, his former adoptive parents return to the village and adopt another child, highlighting Seventeen's painful past.
