Description:
In *Nervous Ken*, experimental filmmaker Ken Jacobs is "interviewed" by 12-year-old M.C., Emma Bernstein. The film explores how we listen, remember, and make meaning through the repetition and variation of spoken words and their accompanying gestures, using this as a foundation for visual music. Employing extensive digital editing techniques, I, a filmmaker and media artist, manipulate time to highlight the differences between digital and film formats while referencing themes and methods from Jacobs' own films. The "musical score" is created by altering the audio track. This is the first released segment from an ongoing series, which premiered in March 2004 at the Museum of Modern Art.
