Description:
Tommy Rosemund, a brilliant scientist who abandoned chess after a childhood breakdown, develops an unbeatable chess program. However, his creation is defeated in a televised match by the Russian world champion. This prompts Rosemund, a West German mathematician, to become a professional chess player himself, a move celebrated by West German media as a sign of German and democratic strength. Rosemund believes the Soviet Union is actively trying to prevent him from defeating the Soviet player Stefan Koruga – a victory he sees as a symbol of capitalism's superiority over socialism and his own path to becoming the next Bobby Fischer.
