Cayalti 1950 (2024)

Following Peru's independence from Spain, the country's peasant population faced ongoing exploitation of their land. 'Cayaltí 1950' documents the massacre that occurred in the northern Peruvian town of Lambayeque over 70 years ago. This event, one of many historical exterminations of Latin American farmers, devastated the local community before General Velazco's Agrarian Reform. The killing of 120 people was followed by a period of silence, stemming from governmental neglect and the lack of accountability for those responsible.
