Description:

Blind after the war, Leonid Pleshcheyev is forced into dependence. He numbs his pain with alcohol, deeply affecting his wife Mariya and their son Lyonka. Mariya decides to leave with Lyonka for Altai, but he runs back to his father. They struggle to survive together until Grigoriy Shalagin, Leonid's old army friend, returns. Grigoriy rekindles Leonid’s lost sense of self-worth and helps him find work.
