From 1977 onward, a 20-minute film documentary accompanied the public relations efforts of the HIB ("Homosexual Interest Group Berlin"), including events like a GDR-wide lesbian meeting in East Berlin in 1978. The HIB assembled a small film crew: a cameraman with a Super8 camera, a recent television director, a script team, an actor, and support staff, all dedicated to documenting their work (Peter Rausch). Operating in East Berlin from 1973 to 1979, the "Homosexual Interest Group Berlin" aimed to establish a counseling and communication center for LGBTQ+ citizens. Although the term "queer" wasn't yet common, it underpinned the HIB's mission. Super 8 film clips quickly became integral to the HIB’s presentations. Separately, Bodo Amelang compiled additional clips into a "kaleidoscope" of short films.
