March 20, 1995. Tsurugi Tatsuhiko, head of the hospital emergency center, is approached in a deserted hospital corridor by nurse Hoshino Nao, who discusses handling late-night emergencies. Simultaneously, Sonoda Naoki begins his shift as the driver of the A20S train from Kita-Senju to Nakameguro, performing routine checks before starting his route. As the train moves, passengers begin coughing and falling ill. A passenger activates the emergency button, causing the train to stop at Tsukiji station for inspection. For an unexplained reason, the passengers' feet are wet. Upon arrival at Tsukiji Station, unwell passengers disembark onto the platform. Sonoda is shocked by what he sees when he exits the driver's cab.
