Description:
Callie Khouri's debut story follows Thelma, married to a domineering man, and Louise, a self-sufficient waitress, whose girls' trip spirals out of control when Louise shoots a man attempting to rape a friend during a bar stopover. In the early 1990s, Hollywood, dominated by action films, was hesitant to back a female-driven project. However, Ridley Scott, drawn to the script by Mimi Polk, agreed to produce and direct. Under his direction, Susan Sarandon and Geena Davis deliver compelling performances as the two accidental outlaws who flee across the American West on a journey of liberation, challenging male authority and discovering their own identities.
