Description:
During the 1960s, France's suburbs were envisioned as welcoming places for immigrants from rural France, Portugal, Spain, North Africa, and Africa, intended to aid the country's post-war recovery. These large housing developments represented this ideal, providing essential amenities like comfort, heating, and electricity. However, by the 1980s, this vision crumbled under the weight of economic hardship, unemployment, poverty, crime, racism, and police brutality. Mohamed Bouhafsi recounts the story of a dream that ultimately failed to materialize.
