Motion (2012)

Throughout the 1980s, Adnan carried a Super-8mm camera with her. She often traveled to New York, staying with a friend in a high-rise apartment overlooking the East River. There, she repeatedly filmed the sun reflecting off skyscrapers, the lines of bridges, the interplay of light and water, barges moving on the river, and the shapes of factory smoke – capturing the quietly meditative poetry of constant motion at the city's edge. Decades later, this footage was digitized and assembled into a feature film, MOTION, which premiered at Documenta 13 in 2012. — BIDOUN
