Asian women, fantasy women (2008)

Asian women have long captivated Westerners, appearing as geishas, schoolgirls, warriors, or in other diverse roles. This film explores the origins of these recurring images in art and popular culture. Director Sophie Bredier, herself of Korean descent, interviews artists like Jean-Paul Goude and Christophe Gans to understand their creative processes and the fantasies surrounding Asian women. The film traces how we construct an idealized image of this imaginary woman and project our own desires onto her.
