The Sinking of the Princess Sophia (2003)

This documentary examines the sinking of the Princess Sophia, the deadliest maritime disaster in Pacific coast history. In October 1918, the Canadian Pacific steamer departed Skagway, Alaska, headed for Vancouver, but was caught in a severe blizzard. The ship drifted off course and struck a reef. Heavy weather blocked rescue efforts, and the vessel sank almost 48 hours later, despite nearby ships. The next day, rescuers found only the mast visible above the water. Of the 353 passengers and crew, no one survived. Using archival photos, 3D animation, interviews, and underwater footage, the film recounts this significant event in maritime history, bringing the setting and era to life.
