This House (2024)

Miryam Charles's film is a dreamlike exploration of grief, displacement, and family history. It centers on the story of a murdered young girl to evoke the feeling of spirits and ancestors within a Haitian diaspora family living between Canada and the United States. Ethereal images blend with Haitian landscapes, which seem bathed in a cold light despite the warm climate. The funeral march appears as a distant voice—a ballad and song from beyond the grave that connects nature, the sea, love, and life after death.
