ZAAD (2025)

ZAAD is the autobiographical story of Dries Meddens. Following his mother's death, Dries becomes responsible for his bipolar father. He uncovers the harsh and often cruel treatment patients receive from society and the psychiatric system. His father eventually dies while confined. While clearing out his parents’ house, Dries finds a letter from his grandfather, revealing a life of accomplishment as the founder of a successful seed breeding company, alongside artistic pursuits and extensive correspondence. Dries sees parallels between his grandfather, father, and himself, leading him to suspect a hereditary link to his father's illness. Searching through family films and photos, he unearths surprising discoveries and seeks guidance from a psychiatrist. Through these consultations and his archival research, Dries begins to re-evaluate his understanding of bipolar disorder.
