Untitled (To the Lebanese Citizens) (2006)

In July 2006, during the war, as ships evacuated foreign nationals and Lebanese citizens with dual nationalities, the Israeli military intercepted a broadcast of the "Voice of the People" radio station to address the Lebanese people. Israel interrupts the broadcast of "Sawt Al-Sha'eb" just as Fairuz finishes performing Talal Haidar's poem "Wahdun" (They Alone) and begins singing another verse declaring her enduring love for Lebanon. Simultaneously, ships are evacuating those fleeing the war. These three events present a striking contrast. Meaning can often be found in coincidence.
