Abu Jamil Street (2010)

Amidst relentless bombing and in tunnels threatened by collapse, four Palestinian tunnel workers dig beneath the Gaza Strip. Six feet underground, where Egypt meets Gaza, they joke about the conflict, comparing it to a cartoon: "It's always Jerry who wins!" Their laughter ceases when Israeli bombs shake the ground. It’s December 2008, and Israel’s air strikes, intended to destroy tunnels bringing supplies from Egypt to Palestine, have begun. After the bombing subsides, the men emerge from the ruins with renewed determination: "They destroy one, and another one appears." As long as Israel's blockade continues, preventing even foreign aid from reaching Palestine, the tunnels represent a vital symbol of resistance and a source of pride. "Some tunnels carry weapons," admits Abu Sleeman, but for him, it’s simply about "bringing back food, so people can survive."
