Foreign Office (2015)

Foreign Office explores the period between 1962 and 1972 when Algiers became a central hub for revolutionaries, hosting offices of liberation movements from Africa, Asia, and the Americas. These included groups like Eldridge Cleaver's Black Panther Party, Nelson Mandela's ANC, and Amilcar Cabral's African Party for the Independence of Guinea and Cape Verde (PAIGC). Starting with this overlooked post-independence era and internationalism, the film prompts reflection on history and how it's passed down, suggesting emancipation is deeply connected to poetry. It follows two young Algerians who are reinterpreting this history through images, language, and storytelling. They create a unique historical narrative using cinematic techniques and translation as methods of exploring and reflecting on history's impact.
