Description:
A career Army officer, Colonel John Paul Vann, is blocked from further advancement by unresolved issues in his past. He sees his assignment to Vietnam as a path to promotion, but openly criticizes the war's strategy, leading to his resignation. He returns to Vietnam as a civilian advisor, taking command of U.S. troops while developing close relationships with Vietnamese women and growing to resent certain South Vietnamese officers.
