Description:

This is a true story about tennis star Renee Richards. In 1976, her career was questioned when it was revealed she is a transgender woman. The film flashes back to 1964, before she publicly came out. She's a successful New York doctor with a glamorous life, a stylish girlfriend, and a hidden world. Her mother, a psychiatrist, rejects her and sends her to another doctor who diagnoses "psychotic gender confusion," claiming it can be reversed. Following a difficult marriage and motherhood, Renee later comes out as transgender and begins a new life in California.
