Happy? (2000)

"Happy?" examines how people experience the passage of time. In the eight months leading up to January 1, 2000, the filmmaker filmed digital interviews with New Yorkers, asking them about their feelings regarding the approaching millennium. Starting with the question, "Are you ready for the millennium?", the conversations evolved into free-flowing discussions with strangers. Inspired by films like "Chronicle of a Summer" and "The Pretty Month of May," "Happy?" uses simple questions to capture the spirit of a moment in time. The result is a blend of documentary and art film, functioning as both a historical record and a spontaneous performance.
